The Braes Storehouse Food Bank was set up in August 2018 to serve the Braes area of Falkirk. In our first year of operation we provided 884 food parcels and 107 bags of toiletries and household items to 48 households in the Braes area, supporting 70 adults and 68 children in need.
We operate independently of any other organisation and rely on a team of local volunteers and donations which come directly from the community in the Braes area. We are actively developing connections with local schools, congregations and community councils to improve our reach for referrals and donations.
Public donations are supplemented with stock purchased through Fareshare, a charity which recycles good quality surplus food that would otherwise have gone to landfill. We also receive free food from Tesco, Redding and Aldi, Polmont once a week, again organised through Fareshare.
